BURN TO SHINE 5 SEATTLE, WA

Burn to Shine • 6 • Atlanta, GA

Curated by Lee Tesche

After the demise of our distributor, we stopped putting out the DVDs and this one sat on a shelf for a long time. We finally had some showings last year with Lee Tesche’s amazing band, Algiers. This one was so hot and sweaty and amazing and Shannon Wright started the day by tearing the damn roof off.

This house was really beautiful and there is a bit of a surprise at the end. I’m such a big Jesse Sykes fan that I was too nervous to talk to her. I love this Tiny Vipers track so much.

The weirdest one yet and never released. This is the first place that anyone (aside from one benefit show) has seen it. Lot’s of technical and organizational issues. Finally some metal! 16 amazing minutes of Magik Markers.

Burn to Shine • 3 • Portland, OR

Curated by Chris Funk

Portland was a very strange one. The house is a McMansion on a golf course and boy does it burn beautifully. By some miscommunication, we arrived with our crew to find out that the owner thought we were going to play outside. He only let us in the house because his daughter was a massive Shins fan. Thank you Shins; the slowed down version of St. Simon is gorgeous.

Burn to Shine • 2 • Chicago, IL

Sales of the first DVD really surprised us and we decided to make more. Chicago was an obvious choice and also home to our beloved distributor, Touch and Go. This was also the beginning of our relationship with Wilco. I’m still in love with this version of Muzzle of Bees.

The birth of my collaboration with Brendan Canty. Brendan was offered a house that was going to be burned by the fire department to “do something cool with”. He asked me to work on it with him and the rest came together organically. A lot of the original crew that volunteered for this one went on to film the rest of our music films with us. I really love those guys. Also, we never would have captured the house burning down if the amazing Amy O’Byrne hadn’t stayed behind and risked her life for art.
